Alguersuari denied Lotus’ offer

Jaime Alguersuari denied the race seat offer with Lotus(LRGP) for 2012 season reports Mundo Deportivo. He was asked if he could take the drive in the black-gold car for 2012 season while on a busy race weekend in Sao Paulo late last year said the publication.

Jaime believed on the verbal agreement by his management, ensuring a race season yet again with Toro Rosso – only to get ditched in the last minute. Albeit working on in BBC Radio, he was embraced with the test role by Pirelli.

Ironically driving a Renault this time but a two year old one. His work starts with them next month in Jerez to provide some vital information on the track regarding new tyre compounds and developing the existing ones.

“It [the Red Bull decision] hurt me but it didn’t kill me,” he was quoted as saying after being ousted from the squad.

Mundo Deportivo also claimed that it was “very difficult” for Jaime to witness both Lotus’ cars on podium last weekend in the Bahrain Grand Prix. Franz Tost and Helmut Marko turned their back on the steadfast drivers but there are still hopes for young Jaime to get back in F1 and do some racing thing.

  1. I find it sad that promising driver Jaime Alguersuari does not have a ride in Formula One and that Toro Rosso waited so long to inform him that his services were no longer needed. While it has to be argued that Romain Grosjean has lived up to Renault’s expectations with the podium and there is no guarantee that Jaime would have made it there, we will never know because of lost opportunities. I feel that some team should step up and give Jaime Alguersuari a ride, he has surely deserves it, while there are a few drivers on track right now that still need experience. Hopefully one of these teams will recognize his potential.
